WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Mary Bucci scored on an open net with the goalie out of position to give Bates College a 1-0 victory over Williams in the NESCAC playoffs.
Goalie Nini Spauldng and the Bates defense frustrated Williams, who failed to convert on a handful of scoring opportunities.
Colby 1, Amherst 0
AMHERST, Mass. – Liza Benson stopped two Amherst penalty kicks, while Katie McCabe and Mollie Puskar converted on Colby’s final two attempts to give the White Mules a 1-0 shootout victory in the NESCAC’s playoffs.
Bowdoin 5, Middlebury 1
BRUNSWICK – Ann Zeigler scored once and assisted on another goal as third seeded Bowdoin downed No. 6 Middlebury 5-1 in the NESCAC playoffs.
A four-goal first-half put the contest out of reach as Bowdoin dominated from the start.
Men’s soccer
Stony Brook 3, Maine 2
ORONO – Douglas Narvaez rifled a shot through a crowd of defenders, hitting inside the back post and giving Stony Brook a 3-2 victory over Maine.
Adam Chenault scored both goals for Maine in the back-and-forth affair.
Maine falls to 2-10-2 overall, and remain winless in America East at 0-5-2. Stony Brook improves to 11-4-3, and 6-1-1 in the conference.
Wesleyan 4, Bowdoin 1
BRUNSWICK – Wesleyan scored more goals than any Bowdoin opponent this season to upset the second-seeded Polar Bears 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC tournament.
Four different Cardinals, Kevin Lohela, Matt Nevin and Josh Stephens scored. The Polar Bears got a goal from Wolf Grueber with under two minutes reminaing in the game.
UMF 1, Johnson State 0
JOHNSON, Vt. – Jeff Tatarczuk converted in the seventh round of penalty kicks and goalie Brian Lemont turned away Johnson State’s final attempt to seal the 6-5 shootout victory for the Beavers.
No. 8 UMF and top-seeded Johnson State played to a 0-0 tie through regulation and a pair of overtimes. Lemont finished the game with six saves in net for the Beavers.
