FARMINGTON – Liv Iron and two of her teammates each scored a goal as the University of Maine at Farmington defeated Bay Path 3-0 in postseason field hockey action on Wednesday.
Melissa Porter and Jodi Welch also tallied for the Beavers (12-4-3). Melissa DeMerchant needed only two saves to record the shutout.
The victory earns UMF a spot in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) final Saturday at Castleton State College in Vermont. Denise Larochelle turned aside 13 shots in net for Bay Path (11-6-3).
Men’s soccer
Mt. Ida 2, UMF 1
NEWTON, Mass. – Josh Belongie scored off a rebound at the 68:45 mark to lift Mt. Ida to a 2-1 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in NAC men’s semifinal soccer action on Wednesday.
Standish native Joe Conway gave the Beavers a 1-0 lead just over eight minutes into the match. Mt. Ida tied things up before the half with a penalty kick conversion. Turner native Brian Leighton made six saves in net for Mt. Ida, while Brian Lemont turned aside seven for UMF.
Field hockey
Hebron 1, Proctor 1
PROCTOR, N.H. – After a scoreless first period, Tiffany Bichrest found the net with just 11 minutes remaining in the second period to put Hebron up by one in a field hockey game on Wednesday.
But Proctor answered five minutes later on a goal by Nikki Fernandez, as the teams played to a 1-1 tie.
Kailey Bubier had an outstanding second period in the midfield for Hebron while goalie Marley Lumbard came up with some great saves late in the game.
Hebron finishes the regular season at 5-4-1. Hebron will host rival Kents Hill in the first round of the MAISAD play-offs on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
