Round Table
AUBURN – The Abnaki Boy Scouts will hold a Round Table at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Auburn Middle School. The theme for November is “Faith, Hope and Charity.”
Roundtable Commissioner Jim Keene will open the meeting with Scout business on upcoming information and events. Bill Picard will discuss overcoming the adversity of having a disability. Those interested can learn more about the speaker by visiting www.billpicard.com.

WLU speaker
AUBURN – Dennis Sweetser will be the speaker at the Thursday, Nov. 10, meeting of the Woman’s Literary Union, 19 Elm St. His topic will be “Women in the Civil War.” Sweetser’s interest in the Civil War began at the age of 14 on his first visit to Gettysburg.
Hostesses for the 2 p.m. meeting will be Jackie O’Donnell and Janice Leonas, with Tonie Ramsey in charge of house decorations. All WLU meetings are open to the public.
School items
AUBURN – Lake Street School will close as an elementary school after the school year. The PTO has had commemorative T-shirts, sweatshirts and hats made to honor the closing and is offering them to alumni. Anyone interested can see them and place an order at the school office.
Author to talk
BRUNSWICK – The Chamberlain Civil War Round Table will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Coffin School cafeteria. Speaker will be Curtis A. Mildner, a round table member, who will discuss his new book, “By the Way, Cy,” the letters of Cpl. George L. Berry, Co. D., Fifth Maine Regiment, to his brother, Cyrus P. Berry of Bryant Pond.
Mildner will talk about how his interest in the subject got started, how and where he researched and the day-to-day experiences of George Berry. The meeting is free and open to the public.

LEWISTON – Dial a Greek Pastry is under way this month. The pastries keep indefinitely and can be frozen. To place an order, call 946-7372, 784-7107, 783-6795. Orders will be taken until Wednesday, Nov. 16. Orders can be picked up at the Greek Orthodox Church, 155 Hogan Road, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.
