LEWISTON – Another show. Another cancellation.

For the second time in less than a week, a large show planned for the city-owned Colisee has been called off.

Late Tuesday, a promoter for the Royal Circus of Moscow on Ice pulled its act from several Northeast venues, including the Lewiston arena. Ticket sales for the tour, though not for Lewiston in particular, were too sluggish, Colisee General Manager Jeff Schumacher said.

“We had the best sales of any of the venues,” he said Wednesday. “It’s tough because it’s twice in one week.”

The week was planned as a demographics catchall, drawing wildly different audiences to the Colisee in performances only two days apart.

The arena had planned to host the band Slipknot for a concert here tonight. The shock-rock band – which performs in jumpsuits and horror masks – canceled when lead singer Shawn “Clown” Crahan’s father died. According to the band’s Web site, concerts here and in New York City were called off as a result.

Schumacher was still trying to reach people who bought tickets for the rock concert when the ice show, featuring dancers, jugglers and clowns, was also canceled.

“This was down to the wire,” he said. Schumacher tried finding a way of booking the ice show without the promoter, but failed.

“We couldn’t do anything about it,” he said, aiming to take the experience in stride.

Though rarely in pairs, cancellations happen. And there are more shows to come.

On Wednesday, Schumacher announced that he had completed a deal to bring 1980s rockers Motley Crue here on March 6. Tickets go on sale Nov. 19.

The popular band, known for its metal sound and raucous concerts, is currently touring with its original members, including Tommy Lee and Vince Neil. They are scheduled to perform in arenas in Japan and Australia in the coming weeks before returning to the United States for the holidays.

“They’re as big as we can get,” Schumacher said. “We only have 4,200 seats.”

Other upcoming shows include World Wrestling Entertainment on Dec. 10 and Care Bears Live on Jan. 13, 14 and 15.

Further out, Schumacher has signed a home and garden show for the end of April and a motor show a week later.

However, his first duty is getting refunds to people who have bought tickets to this week’s show, he said.

People who bought tickets to either show can get their money back at the Colisee box office.

Those who paid with credit cards used on the Internet or by phone will receive an automatic refund into their accounts within a few days, Schumacher said.
