LEWISTON – Carroll Bennett Travers, 77, of Litchfield, died Sunday morning, Nov. 6, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, after a year-long battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 24, 1928, in Wentworth Location, N.H., the son of Charles Travers and Sybil (Bennett) Travers Hoyt Mulherin. Carroll attended schools in Lewiston, Monmouth and Litchfield.

On Jan. 30, 1960, he married Ruth Smith of Monmouth.

He worked for years hauling logs with his stepfather, Forrest Mulherin. He was a member of Local 783 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, working construction throughout the United States until his retirement.

In his younger years, he enjoyed fast motorcycles. He enjoyed being around his family and taking care of his grandchildren and teaching the grandchildren and Oleg Wing how to play cribbage. He also enjoyed reading. He was a man of few words, but loved teasing his Gerry.

In addition to his wife of 45 years of Litchfield; he is survived by a loving and caring son, Flint Travers and his wife, Geraldine Rowlette, of Litchfield (whom he thought of as his daughter); two loving and caring grandchildren, Tanya and Evan Travers of Litchfield; an aunt, Martha Bennett of Auburn; brothers, artist Archie Travers and his wife, Hazel, of Auburn, Virgil Travers and his wife, Sandy, of Greene, Vernon Hoyt and his wife, Ada, of Welchville, Roger Mulherin and his wife, April, of Farmington, and Gary Mulherin of Litchfield; sisters, Sonia Hoyt Smiley and husband, George, of Greene, Judith Mulherin St. Laurent and husband, Jerry, of Lewiston, and Melanie Mulherin of Fayette; sisters-in-law, Shirley Travers of Hebron, Beverly Travers of Lisbon, Cindy Mulherin of Litchfield, and Maria Mulherin of California; many nieces, nephews and cousins; also friends, Vernell Fast of Fayette, Jim McDonnell and Larry Williams of Litchfield, Gordon Bragg and Arthur Pease of Monmouth; his good friend and brother-in-law Lewis Smith of Wales; many good neighbors; and Rocky, his dog.

He was predeceased by his parents; stepfather; brothers, Marvin Travers and Fredrick Heath; and friend, Frances Richard.
