Reunion cancelled
AUBURN – The Edward Little High School class of 1970 35th reunion, scheduled for Oct. 8 at the Forks, was postponed due to poor response.
The committee hopes to reschedule the reunion for sometime in 2006. Meanwhile, the committee has sent out letters explaining the postponement and asking for input in the planning of the reunion and asking for personal updates to be posted on Sandy’s ELHS Class of ’70 Blog.
The results received, the list of missing classmates and personal updates for about 75 classmates can be read on-line by typing http://sandyselhs1970blog.blogstream.com/ into the browser.
The committee still hopes to receive updates and input from those classmates who have not responded. They can respond by mail to Sandra Spiller, 399 Court St., Auburn, e-mail [email protected] or call Sandy at 795-6496.
Club Richelieu
AUBURN – The local chapter of Club Richelieu International will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Rolandeau’s Restaurant, 775 Washington St. Guest will be Regional Governor Pierrette Charest of Hampton, N.H. All members are invited.
Seniors dinner
AUBURN – Robin Dow Senior Citizens will meet Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the United Methodist Church of Auburn, 439 Park Ave., for the annual Thanksgiving dinner. The doors will open at 11 a.m.
Seventy-two members were present at the Oct. 26 meeting at the Alden M. Gayton Post 31, American Legion, with President Dorothy Larrabee presiding. Shirley Montgomery was welcomed back after an illness. Glenys Morrill of Plymouth, Mass., was a guest.
Kay Koss reported the bus to Indian Head, Lincoln, N.H., would leave Post 31 at 9 a.m. Birthdays were acknowledged for October, November and December as there are no meetings then because of the holidays.
The Nominating Committee reported new officers for 2006 as follows: president, Merry Strout; vice president, Doris Michaels; recording secretary, Caroline Chapman; correspondence secretary, Shirley Hawkins; treasurer, Irving Grant; chaplain, Patricia Donohue; floral committee, Frances Robitaille; trips, Evelyn Sawin.
The board of directors is composed of Lucien Marcoux, Ralph Lashua, Kathleen Koss, Irving Grant and Joan Webb. Officers will be installed at the first meeting in January.
A Halloween luncheon was prepared by Irving and Charlotte Grant. Prizes were awarded to Mariette and Gerold Timberlake for the most original Halloween costumes. Attendance prize winners were Alwin Strout and Jeanne Poulin; pot of gold, Jeanette Gagne, Kaye DeBurra and Jean Moody. After the meeting and lunch, bingo was played.
Grange guests
AUBURN – Members of Danville Junction Grange will meet at the hall on Thursday, Nov. 10, to observe Guest Officers Night. The program, which will start at 7 p.m., will feature Phil House and Kathy Haley, well known musical performers. A business meeting will follow, and refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. All members and guests are invited.
Rotary speakers
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club will meet at noon Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Ramada Inn. SFC Marcel Chasse and SFC Bethany Mazarro of the 133rd Engineering Battalion, Maine Army National Guard, will tell of the unit’s experiences while on deployment in Iraq. Chasse and Mazarro are Maine Army National Guard recruiters.
Anyone wishing to attend the program or to learn more about Rotary is welcome. The buffet luncheons are $8 a person.
Seniors meal
AUBURN – New Auburn Senior Citizen will host a Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the St. Louis Church basement hall, Third Street. The meal, for members only, will cost $3.
A memorial service for deceased members will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the church, and all members are encouraged to attend.
A meeting was held Nov. 2 with President Virginia Levasseur presiding. November birthdays were noted and small gifts given. A Nominating Committee was selected to help choose new officers for the next year. They were Lorraine Poirer, Margaret Charest and Normand Gagnon.
New members welcomed were Joy Nelson, Andrea Metayer and Edward Laverdiere. Those going on the Nov. 10 trip were instructed to meet at the parking lot off exit 80.
The pot of gold winners were Lucille Dick, Cecile Picard, Lorraine Poirier and Helen Lepage. A light lunch was served followed by bingo.
Open bingo for seniors 60 and over will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 9 and 23.
Bridge play
NEW GLOUCESTER – The New Gloucester Bridge Club met Nov. 6 at the Masonic Building, intersection of Routes 100 and 231, when a four-table Howell movement was played.
Flight A winners were: first, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; second, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer, who were also first in flight B; third, Dot Kelleher and Mike St. John. Second in Flight B were Linda Leotsakos and Audrey Burns.
There will be no game next week due to a regional tournament in Portland. The next game will be Sunday, Nov. 20. All bridge players are welcome, and a partner is guaranteed. For more information, call Les Buzzell at 783-4153 or cell 754-9153.
