SABATTUS – Voters approved the creation of a charter commission Tuesday, a panel that will re-examine how town government will be shaped in the future.
The vote was 841 in support of the measure and 488 against.
The commission will now have one year to come up with proposed changes for town government, potentially including the post of town manager or rules governing the town’s growth.
“Ever since the turnpike interchange opened, we’ve been feeling the growth of a bedroom community,” Town Clerk Robin DuLac recently told the Sun Journal. The Sabattus interchange, Exit 86, opened last November.
The town currently has no local rules governing its growth, only those governing all towns within state law.
