LIVERMORE – Selectmen are considering installing an electric gate at the transfer station to eliminate problems created when employees leave the existing gate open for convenience.
According to Town Administrator Kurt Schaub, town employees, in order to save time, sometimes leave the gate open for easy access during busy times of the day. The public assumes that if the gate is open then the station is open, which is not always the case, he said during the selectmen’s meeting on Monday.
Cost estimates for a new gate range from $7,100 to $7,500, and the electrical work would be an additional $600. Because of budget restrictions, Schaub has asked the town’s Solid Waste Board to look into alternative solutions, such as video surveillance.
In other matters this week, Schaub told selectmen the town has ordered two signs telling residents they are limited to two 5-gallon buckets of sand per snowstorm. The signs were needed as reminders, since the town lacks the personnel to enforce the longtime policy.
Road salt will not be provided to the public, Schaub said.
“Residents requiring salt or larger quantities of sand are encouraged to make their own arrangements,” he said.
The usual overnight parking ban on all roads will be in effect from Nov. 15 through April 15.
The town office will be closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.
