Interim minister
RANGELEY – The Rev. William R. Carter has assumed the position of interim minister at Rangeley Congregational Church, UCC. Carter has preached in many Franklin County churches over the years. Carter, a resident of Rangeley, can be reached at the church office, 864-5966, each Monday.
Veterans Day
FARMINGTON – A brief Veterans Day celebration will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, under the flag at the Farmington Wal-Mart. Highlights of the program will include brief remarks by Sen. Chandler Woodcock and Rep. Tom Saviello; the pledge of allegiance, led by Girl Scout Troop 822 and Cub Scout Pack 500; and raising of the colors by combined members of VFW Post 3335 of Jay and the Sandy River Young Marines. Gordon Webber of the Young Marines will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
Society program
FARMINGTON – The Farmington Historical Society will meet Monday, Nov. 14, at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church on Academy Street. There will be a potluck supper at 6 p.m. followed by a business meeting and program at 7.
The presentation will focus on a pictorial history of the Titcomb Ski Slope by Megan Roberts. Guests and new members are welcome.
Garden club
FARMINGTON – The Mt. Blue Area Garden Club will meet Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the Farmington Municipal Building. All meetings begin with a social half-hour when light refreshments are served at 12:30 p.m., with the program and business meeting to follow at 1 p.m.
The guest speaker will be Dave Fuller of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. His presentation will be on nontimber forest products. All are invited.
The Garden Club will decorate the Titcomb House at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, for Chester Greenwood Day. Anyone interested in participating or donating greenery or festive materials should contact Emery Goff at 778-6908.
Meeting notice
STRONG – The Franklin County Democratic Committee will meet Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Forster Building. The executive committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. followed by the whole committee at 7.
Dress rehearsal
FARMINGTON – A dress rehearsal performance of the Farmington Emblem and Elks Lodge’ variety show, “USO Show Returns,” will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Farmington Elks Lodge 2430 in West Farmington.
The show, followed by a dance, will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18 and 19, at the Elks Lodge. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Steve Bull will serve as DJ and emcee. Admission is a $10 donation, and tickets are available from cast members, at Mickey’s Hallmark, Leona’s or from Shannon at 778-4726.
Church lunch
FARMINGTON – A fish chowder luncheon will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the Fairbanks Union Church. The menu will include homemade biscuits, apple crisp, crackers, cheese and pickle for $6. Diners may eat in or take out. Call 778-4705 for home or work place delivery within a five-mile radius.
Planning fair
RANGELEY – The Women’s Fellowship Group of the Rangeley Congregational Church, UCC, is preparing for the annual holiday fair to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Barn, High Street.
Organizers said shoppers will find something for everyone, with special emphasis on hostess gifts and family gift items for the children to purchase.
Shoppers can expect tables of cutlery, dried arrangements, articles for pets, items made by the men, angels and Santas seconds in addition to the myriad of ornaments and handmade crafts.
The cookie walk will return with a variety of items in a jar, jams, pickles and cakes, and there will be a supply or reindeer dust.
The senior class at Rangeley Lakes Regional School will serve a luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Little Mountain School space with hot soups, sandwiches and dessert.
Retired teachers
FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Unit of Retired Teachers will meet at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at the Rainbow Cafe in the Vocational Center at Mt. Blue High School. Colleen Reynolds will discuss her new book, “For a Child With Spirit: Preparing Children for a Challenging World.”

Grange fair
WILTON – Wilson Grange is preparing for a Christmas craft fair to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at the grange hall in East Wilton.
