Navy Seaman Recruit Amanda K. Bjorkland, daughter of Janice M. Bjorkland of Bryant Pond and Mark L. Bjorkland of Wellington, Fla., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Hospitalman Recruit Daniel J. Rodriguez, a 2005 graduate of Sacopee Valley High School, Hiram, has also completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, they completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Bjorkland is a 2005 graduate of Royal Palm Beach High School of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.
