LEWISTON – Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care is announcing the appointment of new policy council members and officers.

The policy council is a formal governing body made up of parents, past parents and community representatives. Through monthly meetings, it empowers its members to have a direct voice in program policy. The council gives Head Start parents the opportunity to make decisions that affect their children’s growth and development.

Orientation was held for new members on Nov. 3. Review of the purpose, procedures and policies was the focus. Committees were explained, and representatives were given the opportunity to volunteer.

Officers were also elected meeting of policy council. Jennifer Justice, Lisbon Falls center representative, was elected chairwoman; Stephanie Pomerleau, representative from the Washburn Center, vice chairwoman; and Jessica Dube, from the Livermore Falls center, treasurer.

Those interested in becoming a member of Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care’s policy council should call 795-4040. Volunteers are needed and welcome.

Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care has provided child-development services to pregnant women, families and children, newborn to age 5, for more than 40 years. Centers are located in Lewiston, Auburn, Lisbon Falls, Livermore Falls, Mechanic Falls and Turner.

Applications for all programs are accepted at any time. Most are free-to-eligible children. Full-day child care services are available on a sliding fee scale for parents who are working, continuing their education or participating in job training.
