AUBURN – For six months, Connie Zimmerman waited to hear that her newly opened Munroe Inn Restaurant would be featured on national television. On Friday night, the call came in – two days before the show will be broadcast.

“They were supposed to give us two weeks’ notice,” Zimmerman said. “Instead, we just heard from them tonight.

On June 11, a film crew from Home and Garden Television’s “If These Walls Could Talk” arrived in Auburn to tape an episode featuring the historic Munroe house. The cable station’s program features interesting houses from around the country. It picked the Munroe home after the Zimmermans responded to the program’s search for unique homes in Maine.

The home, built in classic Queen Anne Victorian design, was owned by Maria Munroe, the widow of a wealthy businessman who made a fortune in the shoe industry. After his death, she wanted to have an in-city home that could be a showpiece. “The integrity of the house has been maintained,” Zimmerman said. “A lot of heart has been invested in it.”

The show will run Sunday night on HGTV. Anyone interested in watching the feature on the Munroe house should check local listings for showtimes.

And while Zimmerman was aggravated that she wasn’t given more notice, it did not completely diminish her excitement over the showing.

“I’m very excited about it,” she said. “It’s something positive about our area.”
