JAY – James L. Forbes, 71, a longtime resident of Route 140 in Jay, died Monday, Nov. 14, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Livermore on Jan. 13, 1934, the son of James A. and Frances (Lefebvre) Forbes. He attended the schools of Livermore Falls.

On Nov. 21, 1953, he married Ruth Hickey, and they remained “a perfect match until death do us part.”

He worked for International Paper Co. in Jay and Bass Shoe Co. in Wilton, retiring in 1998.

He was a member of the IP Quarter Century Club and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting, but his most wonderful experiences were sharing this love with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He truly loved his family and friends. Jim will be remembered fondly through his many family events.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years of Jay; a son, Wesley (Skip) Forbes and his wife, Ann, of Chesterville; two daughters and their husbands, Elaine and Al McFarland of Tennessee, and Barbara and Rene Cloutier of Livermore Falls; a brother, Warren Forbes and his wife, Bette, of Livermore; five sisters, Effie Waite of Mexico, Shirley Turmel of Livermore Falls, Carol Jackson and her husband, Bill, of Florida, Carlene Leila Viles of Randolph, and Priscilla Pike and her husband, Peter, of Temple; a brother-in-law, Elroy Ziemer of Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Keith McFarland, Kristin (McFarland) Johnson, Ryan Cloutier, Ranae (Cloutier) L’Italien, Eric Forbes and Aaron Forbes; three great-grandchildren, Lane McFarland, Will Johnson and Faith Johnson, all of Tennessee; and a beloved family friend, Bonnie Fitch.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Clarence William Forbes; and Marion Lefebvre Ziemer, who was raised as his sister.
