SABATTUS – A local student faces an expulsion hearing and possible criminal charges stemming from a bomb threat made at the elementary school.
Superintendent Paul Malinski said Thursday that police have summoned the child, who attends the Sabattus Central School.
The school board also will be scheduling a hearing to determine if the child will be expelled for making the threat.
There have been three bomb threats over the past month at the elementary school, which serves students in grades three through eight. When a threat is received, students are typically moved to a safe facility, Malinski said. Once, he noted, when a threat was made near the end of the school day, children were sent home.
“We do take as many precautions as we can,” he said.
Local police referred the bomb threat case to the Androscoggin County district attorney’s office to determine if any criminal charges will result.
Malinski said that under federal anti-terrorism legislation, making bomb threats could also be a violation of federal law.
