WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) – A 15-year-old girl accused of attempting to kill her father will be placed in a residential treatment facility out of state.

In a deal approved by a judge Friday, Brittany Woodward has avoided prison time and was placed under the supervision of family court until she is at least 18.

Woodward was accused in March of plotting with her boyfriend to kill her parents.

Nineteen-year-old Ian Quaderer of Hartland, Woodward’s boyfriend at the time, is awaiting a sentencing. He has a plea agreement pending that would allow him to avoid additional jail time and be placed on probation.

Because family court proceedings are confidential it’s unknown how long Woodward will stay at the residential treatment facility.

According to court records, Woodward was suffering from depression. A psychiatrist recommended she be placed in a treatment facility for one to three years and advised against sending her to prison.

She has been held at the Woodside Juvenile Rehabilitation Center in Colchester.

Woodward is accused of holding a .22-caliber handgun to her father’s head in March but decided not to shoot because she said it didn’t appear that Quaderer was going to help her, court records said.

In July, she agreed to plead guilty to a reduced charge of aggravated assault in exchange for having her case transferred to family court.

“From my own dealings with her, she certainly appreciates the gravity” of her case, Woodward’s lawyer, David Sleigh of St. Johnsbury, Vt., said Friday.

“I think it was a satisfactory outcome to everyone involved,” he said.
