These wireless headphones aren’t cheap, but their sound quality is top-notch.

EDITORS’ RATING: 8.3, excellent

THE GOOD: Noise-free, infrared wireless headphones; Dolby Headphone mode; Dolby Digital, Pro Logic II and DTS processing; versatile connectivity options; transmitter/charger base works with corded headphones, too.

THE BAD: They’re pricey. $263-$422

WHAT’S IT FOR: Listening to music or movies wirelessly in a home environment.

WHO’S IT FOR: Movie fanatics, music lovers and late-night TV viewers who don’t want to be tethered to their A/V equipment.

ESSENTIAL EXTRAS: Any audio source, such as an A/V receiver, a CD/DVD player or a TV.

THE BOTTOM LINE: The Pioneer SE-DIR800C noise-free wireless headphones are the first we’ve seen to feature Dolby Headphone processing – and they sound great.
