Peru funding
PERU – The municipal officers have been notified that the Department of Environmental Protection Small Community Grant Program has been funded through the November bond issue for 2006.
The program may provide grants to municipalities to assist low-moderate income property owners with failing septic systems that are causing water pollution or public nuisance conditions. Any resident having a failed system should contact Kathy at the town office at 562-4627 for information as soon as possible.
Valley fair
RUMFORD – The annual Christmas in the Valley Craft Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Mountain Valley High School with 56 crafters on hand.
There will be a cookie walk and a Chinese auction, with proceeds going to the scholarship funds for Mountain Valley and Dirigo high schools. The Kid’s Corner will be run by the National Honor Society of Mountain Valley.
This year’s kitchen will be stocked and run by the Rumford/River Valley Relay For Life Committee, with all the kitchen proceeds going to Relay For Life. On the menu will be a chicken pie plate with fixings, chili, hot dogs and homemade apple crisp and gingerbread. Relay For Life will also have a pie sale.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive at 11 a.m. at the Kid’s Corner and will be there until 1 p.m. Children of all ages will be able to talk with Santa and have their pictures taken with him for a nominal fee. Santa is also asking that each child bring a non-perishable item that will go to local food pantries.
There will be no Christmas parade this year.
