LEWISTON – Michael Allen Murphy, 57, surrounded by loving family and friends went home to be with Our Lord on Nov 19.

Born on Dec. 1, 1949, in Lewiston, Michael touched the hearts of all who knew him with his courage, strength and sense of humor.

As a young man, Michael enjoyed many hobbies and sports including baseball, skiing, singing, playing guitar and drag racing. His friends included people of all ages and walks of life.

Michael suffered a debilitating motorcycle accident at age 21 and has been a resident in health care centers much of his life. Painting, watching comedy shows and sing-a-longs were among his favorite activities. He made many friends among the caring staff, residents and pets at his most recent home, d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston.

Survivors include his mother, Pearl Murphy of Auburn; a son, Danny J. Banker of Poland; a daughter, Kimberly Gurney of Poland; grandsons, Kaleb Banker, Colby Banker and Nathan Block; sisters, Mary Murphy Dubois of Poland, Bette Murphy of Rumford, Shirley Taylor of Poland, Donna Haley of Minot, and Alice Eastman of Auburn; brothers, Richard Eastman of Litchfield, Frank Eastman of South Carolina; an aunt, Inez Stinchfield of Canton; his former wife, Belinda Gerry of Auburn; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Chester Allen Murphy, in 1975.
