LEWISTON – Police on Tuesday were searching for a driver who fled the scene after a vehicle struck a 13-year-old boy on Lisbon Street.

Investigators said the boy was riding his bicycle near Extreme Pita on Lisbon Street when he was struck and thrown onto the roof of the vehicle about 5:45 p.m.

The 13-year-old was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, where he was treated for a broken jaw and other facial injuries. The boy was later released from the hospital. He was not identified.

Police said the driver who struck the boy did not stop at the scene. Witnesses provided descriptions of the vehicle, but by late Tuesday night the driver had not been found.

Police said the 13-year-old who was struck had glass in his hair when rescue crews reached him. Investigators believe the windshield of the vehicle that struck him may have been smashed in the accident.
