The Monmouth Academy Concert Band is pleased to have a new addition to their trumpet section this year. Their band director, Mr. Thomas Stott, put an advertisement into the newspaper inviting community members to come play in the band. He felt that it would be a valuable experience for the youth to be able to play with more people, especially where Monmouth is such a small school. Ms. Lynne Chick, an adult member of the community, saw the advertisement, and it sparked her curiosity. “I was not sure how old of a person Mr. Stott was looking for,” says Ms. Lynne. When she contacted Mr. Stott, Ms. Lynne was pleased to find out that her age was not an issue at all.
Lynne Chick is originally from Connecticut. She started learning how to play trumpet when she was in the sixth grade. She took lessons at her school, and continued to be involved in her school’s music program at Ellsworth Memorial High School, located in Connecticut. She furthered her trumpet studies outside of school at the Hartt School of Music, also located in Connecticut.
In addition to the Monmouth Academy Concert Band, Ms. Lynne has also been playing in the Augusta Symphony Orchestra since last spring. She says that it has been fun to get back into playing again. She enjoys having the chance to meet the youth in the high school band, and having the chance to play with them. The high school students in the band are thrilled to have her talent contributing to the group.
Monmouth Academy is still welcoming community members to come play in the band. It does not matter how old you are. All you have to do is play an instrument. If you are interested in joining, please contact Mr. Thomas Stott at 933-9002 for more information. The band hopes to see you there!
