LISBON – The new water rate will be implemented Dec. 1, Water Department attorney Joseph G. Donahue confirmed late Tuesday.

The Public Utilities Commission voted Tuesday to lift its suspension order. The order was issued after water users, opposed to the 51.52 percent rate hike filed by the Lisbon Water Department on Aug. 24, petitioned the PUC to investigate.

A subsequent investigation by the Office of the Public Advocate resulted in a jointly signed recommendation by William C. Black, general counsel for the Office of the Public Advocate, and Donahue, that the suspension should be terminated and the new rate allowed to go into effect Dec. 1.

The new rate will generate an additional $255,090 for the Water Department.
