PORTLAND (AP) – A Portland man is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in the shooting death of his younger brother at their mother’s home Thanksgiving afternoon, police said.

Edmund Davis, 53, is charged with murder in the death of Michael Davis, 51, who was pronounced dead at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

An autopsy Friday determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to the state medical examiner’s office. The death was ruled a homicide.

Laura Davis, 73, called police shortly after 1 p.m. to report the shooting at her home, located in the Morrill’s Corner area of the city. Investigators said the shooting occurred after an argument of some sort, and that the victim was shot with a firearm.

Michael Davis was taken to Maine Medical Center, where he died. The mother was not hurt.

Police were not releasing additional information, said Lt. Vernon Malloch.

Neighbors said they thought the brothers were retired and that their mother was in poor health. They said the brothers moved to the quiet street in recent months.

Edmund Davis was being held at the Cumberland County Jail without bail.
