MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Forward A.J. Jackson led a dominant effort in the paint, scoring 17 points and grabbing 14 rebounds as Robert Morris handled the University of Maine 62-53 at the Sewall Center.

Nine of Jackson’s boards came in the offensive zone as the Colonials opened up a 45-36 margin in rebounds and outscored the Black Bears 32-30 from under the basket.

Jeremy Chappell added 13 points, and Tony Lee scored 11 points to go with eight rebounds and three assists for Robert Morris (2-2). The Colonials also held a decisive advantage at the free throw line, scoring 13 points from the stripe in the game to the Bears’ three.

Rashard Turner led all scorers with 23 points for Maine (1-4), and dished out five assists. Freddy Petkus scored seven points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Black Bears.

Bates 97, Thomas 68

LEWISTON – Bates scored the first 11 points of the game en route to a 60-25 margin at the half and never looked back, routing visiting Thomas College 97-68 in the Terriers’ season opener.

The Bobcats (3-1) led by as many as 40 points in the second half. Sophomore guard Bryan Wholey and junior forward Rob Stockwell both contributed 17 points. Zak Ray knocked back 14 points and dished out eight assists, while Scott Place chipped in 15 points.

Bates also outrebounded the Terriers 52-33 in the game.

James Godley led Thomas (0-1) with 12 points and five steals, and Dan Grappi scored six points to go with seven assists and six swiped balls.

Colby 65, MMA 58

WATERVILLE – Junior guard Tracy Nale poured in a career-high 21 points to lead Colby to a 65-58 win over Maine Maritime.

The Mules pulled away with an 11-2 run over the final 2:30. Katie McCabe scored 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds for Colby (3-0), while Kate Emery overcame foul trouble to net 11 points and four boards.

Alyssa Burns paced Maine Maritime (2-1) with 26 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. Julia Knights chipped in with 10 points and four assists.
