SOUTH PARIS – Henry M. Waisanen, 84, of West Paris, died Monday, Nov. 28, at the Maine Veterans Home.

He was born in Greenwood on June 8, 1921, the son of Matti and Nino Mustonen Waisanen.

He was a woodsman and a carpenter, building his own home in West Paris.

He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He received a Thank You, America certificate from the French ambassador several years ago. This was awarded to individuals for their participation in the liberation of France.

He married Sheryl Ring in 1949.

He loved playing cribbage. He enjoyed fishing, skiing and dancing with his wife.

He was a veteran of the month winner at the Maine Veterans Home. He was a member of the Universalist Church in West Paris, the American Legion in West Paris and Floyd-Harlow VFW Post 9787 in South Paris. He was a 50-year member of the Oddfellows.

He is survived by his wife of West Paris; three daughters, Norine Stone of West Paris, Tammy Rogers and her husband, David, of South Carolina, and Starr Waisanen of Kennebunk; four grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, Heidi and Roy; a sister, Tyyne Fowler of South Paris; and two brothers, Harold of South Paris and Veino “Eddie.”

He was predeceased by four brothers, John, Toivo, Michael and Joe.
