LEWISTON – AARP Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run, tax counseling and preparation service for low-and middle-income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older.

Volunteers are needed for four to eight hours a week from Feb. 1 through March 31. Free training will be conducted Jan. 16 to 20 under IRS auspices. The IRS provides all the material to complete the training and to take the IRS certification exam.

Those unable to attend the training can study at home or take the training over the Internet. The IRS will also provide free computer training with the special Tax Wise program during that time.

The service is needed in the areas of Auburn-Lewiston, Poland, Norway-Paris, Rumford and Farmington.

Those interested should call Donald W. Linscott Jr., district counselor, at 784-3024 or dlinscot@gwi.net.
