LIVERMORE FALLS – Two women were arrested Tuesday night after a fight broke out between two families in front of 88 Depot St. One woman was hit by a bat after a verbal dispute escalated in the middle of the street, police said Wednesday.

Elena Colon, 37, and her daughter, Crystal Colon, 18, both of Wheeler Street in Livermore Falls, were each arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct, Livermore Falls police officer Maurice Drouin said Wednesday.

Elena Colon was also arrested on a warrant from Kennebec County and remained at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn Wednesday night, a corrections officer said. Crystal Colon was released Wednesday. Drouin said the bail for the daughter was set at $50 cash.

Drouin said he responded to a report of five to eight people fighting with baseball bats at 10:09 p.m. on Depot Street, located off Route 133, three houses up from the intersection of High and Sewall streets.

The Colons had called the house of Crystal Baker to say they were going there, in connection to allegations being made by juveniles at Depot Street, Drouin said.

The Colons and a man arrived at the scene; Baker and four juveniles, two of them her children, were at the Depot Street residence, he said.

They were not getting along, and the man pulled a bat from the car; a boy from the other family picked up a 4-foot, 4-inch by 4-inch post from the yard and told the man to put down the bat, Drouin said.

The man gave the bat to Elena Colon and she hit Baker in the leg, he said. Baker took the bat away from Colon and then the Colons jumped on Baker, he said.

Baker’s daughter then pulled Crystal Colon off her mother, and things started to break up when police arrived, he said.

Drouin, Livermore Falls police Lt. Tom Gould and Jay police officer Richard Caton IV separated the parties and interviewed them, Drouin said.

Baker was treated at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington for injuries received in the melee, Gould said Wednesday.

Baker had a bruised leg and had a splint on her hand when she returned from the hospital, Drouin said.

More charges are pending, he said.

The Colons are scheduled to appear Feb. 8, 2006, in 8th District Court in Lewiston.
