Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Seth F. French-Dubois, son of Therese Landean of Auburn, and his fellow shipmates have returned from a scheduled deployment to the Western Pacific while assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Higgins, homeported in San Diego.

Higgins made port visits to Hong Kong, China and Port Kelang, Malaysia. Sailors restored the Bayanihan Center in Hong Kong and helped rebuild a local orphanage in Port Kelang.

During the deployment, USS Higgins participated in exercise Malabar 2005. Service members conducted a simulated mass casualty drill to test the crew’s ability to respond to an emergency scenario involving a large number of casualties.

The purpose of the exercise was to increase interoperability between the U.S. and Indian navies and enhance the cooperative security relationship between the two countries.

The primary mission of French-Dubois’ ship is to provide multi-mission offensive and defensive capabilities. French-Dubois joined the Navy in October 2001.
