GARDINER – The Dreamweavers quartet – Ann Hutchings of Gardiner, Lisa Lee of Jefferson, Martha Tait of Whitefield and Carolyn Gray of Jefferson – received the Image of Harmony award at a special ceremony in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, on Nov. 11.
The award was announced by Deborah Staples of Waterville, international quartet coordinator for Harmony Inc., an organization of women’s a cappella barbershop singers in the USA and Canada. The award is presented to a Harmony Inc. registered quartet for the unselfish giving of their time and energy in service to their community. Recipients are presented a traveling trophy, and each individual receives a pin. The Dreamweavers quartet was nominated by their local chapter, Maine-ly Harmony of Gardiner.
The members of Dreamweavers have served as officers and music leaders in their local chapter and have been untiring in their willingness to transport and set up risers so that the chorus can rehearse and perform. They have encouraged the involvement of youth members in the organization, including two daughters of one of their members. They have performed for chapter shows and have provided musical entertainment for elder hostel groups, tour groups, nursing homes, benevolent organizations and charitable functions.
During a ceremony Nov. 16 at Gardiner Regional Middle School, where Maine-ly Harmony rehearses at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, the quartet was congratulated by their fellow singers and treated to a special cake.
Women and girls are invited to the weekly rehearsals to find out more about a cappella singing. Call Gerry Dostie at 623-5730 for more information.
