This is in response to the letter from India Adams, printed Nov. 29. A white flag is a symbol of surrender. Placing those white flags to symbolize our men who died in Iraq was a disgrace.
Wayne Elkins is a true veteran. He did the right thing; and I believe any true supporter of our troops would do the same, including myself.
The ones who really were wrong, in my book, were the ones placing white flags of surrender at the resting place of those who gave all for their country.
Adams has forgotten about 9/11. We are at war and our troops need all our support.
Today’s so-called peace movement in this country is a replica of the peace movement in the ’60s, whose members spat on our returning troops and promoted a peace movement responsible for more of our soldiers being killed in Vietnam.
True peace doesn’t come with a white flag of surrender.
Elkins is a hero in my book. Only American flags belong in our veterans cemeteries. There should never have been a compromise on that issue.
