JAY – Elizabeth “Tiny” L’Italien, 82, of Merriman Street, Jay, died early Saturday morning, Dec. 3, surrounded by her family.
She was born May 20, 1923, in Berlin, N.H., the daughter of Robert N. Hebert Sr. and Emelda (Bourassa) Hebert. She attended schools in Berlin, N.H., Rumford and Jay.
On July 22, 1946, she married Leo L’Italien at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay; he died June 11, 1998.
Elizabeth worked during World War II at International and Otis Paper Cos., then at Norwalk Shoe Co. She later worked doing cleaning for Diaz Corp. and A & V Construction in Jay.
Throughout her life, Elizabeth was a devoted communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, a member of St. Mary’s Rosary Sodality, Riley, and also a member of the Living Rosary of Our Lady of Grace Shrine in Colebrook, N.H.
She enjoyed gardening and canning, picking blueberries and apples, traveling, cooking and had a particular fondness for telling stories.
She especially loved the time she spent with her family. Elizabeth was a joy to all that knew her. Her family and friends will always remember the warm reception that welcomed all who came to her home.
She is survived by three sons, Paul L’Italien and his wife, Pat, of Livermore, Robert L’Italien of Jay, and Rene L’Italien and his wife, Barbara, of Jay; three daughters, Marie Hamel and her husband, Robert, of Livermore Falls, Louise Beaulieu and her husband, John, of Iron Mountain, Mich., and Jeannette Merrill and her husband, Robert, of Livermore; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Aurora Provencher, Rebecca and Lauretta Hebert, Helen Buote and Gloria Fournier and her husband, John, all of Jay; a brother, Armand Hebert and his wife, Pauline, of Corinna; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Joe, Laurier and Robert “Gus” Hebert; a sister, Mary Jane Pomerleau; and brothers-in-law, Adriene Provencher and Rudy Buote.
