FARMINGTON – Edward Kobischen, 87, of Wilton, formerly of Broadalbin, N.Y., went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 2 at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 10, 1918, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of Joseph and Mary Kobischen. He moved to Broadalbin, N.Y., in 1947, and to Wilton in 2000.

He married Virginia Grosvenor on June 25, 1955.

While living in Broadalbin, N.Y., he was employed by the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, N.Y. During his 34 years with the company, he worked in the international exporting department, the G.E. engineering lab, the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, where he engaged in the refueling operations and repair of nuclear submarines, and the gas turbine department, retaining the position of manager of technical publications. He retired in January 1982.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the 77th Infantry Division in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged from the service with the rank of 1st sergeant.

He was a member of the Broadlbin Baptist Church, where he and his wife were very active. He was a deacon for many years, youth leader, Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. While living in Wilton, he attended both the East Wilton Union Church and the Farmington Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia E. Kobischen, whom he loved and felt their marriage was the closest he could get to heaven on Earth; a son, Eric Kobischen and his wife, Wanda, and their children, Jason, Justin and Jennifer, all of Wilton.
