PORTLAND – Attorneys Charles P. Bacall and Kevin R. Haley will lead a panel discussion on trademarks hosted by the Center for Law and Innovation and the Maine Patent Program.

The seminar will be noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, the University of Maine School of Law, 246 Deering Ave., in the moot courtroom.

Issues will include: the importance of choosing a strong trademark when developing a brand strategy for products or services, protecting a trademark through registration, the proper use of trademarks and the process of trademark licensing.

Bacall, who chairs Verrill Dana’s Intellectual Property and Technology Group, has served two terms as chairman of the Intellectual Property Section of the Maine State Bar Association. His practice also concentrates on electronic commerce and business law.

Haley manages the domestic and international trademark portfolios of Brann & Isaacson’s clients, prosecutes trademark applications and conducts litigation before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He also is involved in business planning, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, commercial real estate and intellectual property licensing.
