After watching the Auburn City Council meeting on Nov. 21, I contacted my councilor, Donna Rowell. Based on her votes, it appears to me that Rowell is anti-business and anti-development. My biggest concern is her view regarding the proposed parking garage in downtown Auburn.

Rowell explained to me that the city-funded garage would be owned by Tom Platz. I questioned that, but she assured me that Platz would not only own the garage, but he would also control all of the revenues generated by the garage.

After further investigation, I learned that the garage would, in fact, be owned by the city and the city would receive all parking fees.

It seems that those fees would not only provide non-tax revenues, but the garage would foster further downtown development and commercial real estate taxes.

I wonder if Rowell truly doesn’t understand the issue. City councilors are elected to be the eyes, ears and voices of the residents. If they are not up to date on the issues or are deliberately providing misinformation, they are not doing their job.

It seems that Charles Mollica is attempting to recall the wrong group of city councilors.
