JAY – Workers guided metal roofing to the top of Jay’s school bus garage Monday while other workers installed siding and insulation on the building.
“We’re progressing well,” Ernie Desroches, foreman for Bancroft Contracting Corp., said Monday. “We’re hoping to give the building back to (the School Department) by the end of December.”
In late June, about $253,884 in damage was done to the building when the garage caught fire. In addition, three buses and a tractor were destroyed. Fire officials believe the fire started on the commercial tractor after it malfunctioned.
Firefighters saved several buses by driving the vehicles through the garage’s bay doors. The doors remained closed because the electricity short-circuited.
“We replaced some of the structure steel for the roof,” Desroches said.
They’ve also cleaned and painted the frame, he said.
