AUBURN – Traffic was backed up in all directions late Wednesday afternoon after three vehicles collided on Mount Auburn Avenue.

Nobody was seriously injured in the crash at Mount Auburn and Park avenues, but police had to direct traffic around the heavily traveled intersection.

Police said vehicles driven by Nicholas Piper, 27, of Auburn, Crystal L. Knight, 19, of Lewiston and Perley C. Childs, 41, of Auburn collided there at about 4:30 p.m.

Several people were examined for complaints of pain suffered in the accident. A section of Mount Auburn Avenue remained blocked to traffic while police and emergency crews responded.

The roadway was opened once the wreckage was cleared and late-day commuter traffic began to flow again through the area.

Damage to Piper’s 1992 Mercury was estimated at $6,000; to Knight’s 1987 Mercury, $3,000 and to Childs’ 1994 Ford, $500.
