LEWISTON – Oscar P. Labonte, 87, of 422 Lisbon Road, Sabattus, passed away peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side early Wednesday morning, Dec. 7, at d’Youville Pavilion, after battling a brave fight with cancer.

He was born in Lewiston on May 2, 1918, the son of John and Alberta (Lebrun) Labonte, and had been a resident of this community since 1942. He attended the Jackson School one-room schoolhouse.

He worked on the Gendron Farm in Lewiston as a boy. In 1942, he purchased a farm in Sabattus. His passion in life was farming. He prided himself in milking the cows and tending to the farmland and animals.

He very much enjoyed children, including time with his great-grandson, Nicholas, taking his leisurely Sunday drives and fishing.

He built himself two homes in his life, the first in 1963 and the second in 1987.

He is survived by his wife, the former Aline Larrivee, whom he married on Nov. 9, 1940, of Sabattus; three children, Linda Labonte of Sabattus and her companion, Nel Peters, Sandy Parsons and her husband, Daniel, of Hampden, and Gary Labonte and his wife, Jeannette, of Sabattus; four grandchildren, Steven Labonte and his fiance, Stacey Bilodeau, of Auburn, Scott Labonte of Sabattus and his fiance, Rebecca Thibodeau, Shawn Labonte of Sabattus, and Craig Parsons and his girlfriend, Brianna Bates, of Glenburn; one great-grandchild, Nicholas Labonte of Auburn; one brother, Joseph Labonte and his wife, Agnes, of Lewiston; and a sister-in-law, Germaine Labonte of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by one sister, Blanche Rioux; and four brothers, Roland, Louis, Aime and Normand Labonte.
