LISBON – Selectmen have approved a five-year industrial wastewater discharge permit for Maine Electronics.

The permit will allow the discharge of water into the town’s wastewater treatment plant. Contaminated water is currently being extracted from a large area surrounding the former printed circuit-board manufacturing plant. It is then air-stripped to remove volatile chemicals.

Under the permit, about 1.5 million gallons of the water free of volatile chemicals water will be discharged into the town’s sewage treatment plant per month. Maine Electronics will pay about $35,000 to discharge the water, Town Manager Curtis Lunt said.

In other business, after discussing a computer-use policy for employees, as recommended by the Technology Committee, it was decided to table the policy until the next meeting for legal review.

Lunt reported that the state Department of Transportation’s planned $8-million reconstruction of Route 9, $5.3 million of which would have been for the portion in Lisbon, has been put off due to funding cuts.

Selectmen also:

• Accepted a $1,000 municipal vault indexing grant obtained by Town Clerk Twila Lycette.

• Voted to waive upcoming tax lien foreclosures on 10 mobile homes.

• Denied an application for a property tax abatement based on poverty reasons following an executive session.

• Renewed automobile graveyard permits for Huston’s Auto Salvage and Campbell’s Used Auto Parts.
