GORHAM – Senior Megan Myles of the University of Southern Maine women’s basketball team has been named the Little East Conference Player of the Week, and also received Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association co-Player of the Week honors.
Myles, a tri-captain for the nationally-ranked Huskies, averaged 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in victories over Colby and Eastern Connecticut State last week, including a career-high 30 points against ECSU.
Myles is the Huskies second-leading scorer for undefeated USM, averaging 12.3 points and five rebounds. The senior guard is the third Husky player to earn LEC weekly honors this season, and the second to receive MWBCA recognition.
Bates trio named to All-New England teams
LEWISTON – Bates College women’s soccer players Meg Coffin, Kim Alexander, and Molly Wagner were named to All-New England teams by the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association.
Coffin, a junior defender, was named a First-Team All-New England after switiching to the sweeper position in 2005 and serving as the anchor for a Bobcats’ defense that held opponents to a mere 0.87 goals per game. Alexander, a junior forward, tied for the NESCAC league-lead with 12 goals to capture Second Team honors. Wagner, a sophomore midfielder, was named to the Third Team after scoring five goals to with a league-leading eight assists on the season.
All three players were previously named to the All-NESCAC First Team.
Bates’ O’Connell, Morin named to All-Region team
LEWISTON – Bates’ College men’s soccer players Terence O’Connell and Brent Morin have been named to the Division III New England East All-Region team by the National Soccer Coaches Association.
O’Connell a senior Forward from Greenwich, Conn., was named to the New England East first team. He finished with 10 goals and four assists on the season.
Morin, the sophomore from Hanover, N.H., was voted to the New England East second team as the top scorer in the conference with 11 goals and five assists, after a seven goal freshman season.
