BRIDGTON – Bridgton Hospital has five new original works of local artists on the main entrance lobby wall due to an anonymous donor.

Beth Cossey, a founding member and artist of Gallery 302, and Pam Smith, development director, organized the contest rules for the artists. Media could include watercolor, pastels, oil or acrylics; the image size had to be 16-by-20 inches; and the theme each would have to follow was “The Beauty of the Lakes Region.”

Five winning pieces would be selected from those submitted and the winning artists would receive a stipend of $300.

Sixteen artists submitted their works. Judges included Smith; Mike McClellan, chamber director; Audrey MacIntyre, Bridgton Hospital board member; and Virginia Moran, guild member.

The winners were Polly Hayton, watercolor, Naples; Donna Lacey-Derstine, pastel, Harrison; Gwen Nagel, pastel, Harrison and Athens, Ga.; Bettina Reid, oil, Harrison; and Elna Stone, watercolor, Bridgton.

Others participating included Beth Cossey, Bridgton; Jane Croteau, Naples; Varvara Harmon, Windham; Donna Kantor, Casco; Eva Kozur, Bridgton; Janet Montgomery, Bridgton; Suzanne O’Brien, Lovell; Waldo Preble, Raymond; Sandra Tardo-Long, Naples; Jeffrey Toole, Naples; and Madeline Wikler, Silver Spring, Md.

The original framed artwork has been installed on the main entrance lobby wall.
