WEBSTER, N.Y. – Juanita Hodgkin Stoesser, 91, formerly of Auburn, died peacefully in the early morning on Dec. 12, at the Hill Haven Nursing Home in Webster, N.Y., where she was a resident for two years due to declining health.

She yearned for the state of Maine, having been born in Auburn on June 25, 1914, daughter of Dana B. Hodgkin and Beatrice Callahan Hodgkin. Her mother died when she was a young girl and she was raised by Doris Woodsome Hodgkin, her stepmom. They remained very close.

She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1932 and attended Farmington Normal School. She joined the WACC’s in 1942 and served overseas in the Philippines and New Guinea, attaining the rank of first sergeant.

She married Joseph W. Stoesser in 1955, and they made their home in Rochester, N.Y.

She will be remembered as an avid golfer and gardener.

Survivors include her brother, Dana Eddie Hodgkin of Minot; sisters, Elizabeth Johnson of East Poland, Jane Whalen of East Poland and Laura Young of West Poland; and sister-in-law, Bert Hodgkin of Lewiston.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband; brother, Robert Hodgkin; and sister, Ruth Polley.
