AUBURN – Lanny Dawson Hendricks, 63, of Bryant Road in Buckfield, went to heaven on Sunday, Dec. 11.
He was born and raised in Turner, attending local schools. He worked on several farms during his teenage years and had many fond memories of working with the Pearl family, including the stunts boys pulled with each other, from sliding off rooftops to driving his grandfather’s car in neutral on the hills of Upper and Lower streets. He shared a special closeness with his grandmother during his younger years while his dad went to war.
He was a member of Local 6 and was employed at Bath Iron Works for the past 23 years. Prior to that, he worked as a maintenance man and mechanic, where he acquired the skills to fix just about anything.
His passion was helping others; if something was not working correctly or was broken, you’d just have to ask Lanny and he’d figure it out or spend days trying.
He had a love of nature and was a member of Sandy River ATV Club of Strong, where he recently purchased a camp, a lifelong dream, to just relax and enjoy the simpler things in life. He would take time away on occasion and enjoyed the Jackman and Eustis areas. He would say, “Let’s be useless and go to Eustis for a relaxing day at Flagstaff Lake.”
He liked to build things; he built several pieces of furniture with his hobby of woodworking. For the past five years, he had been building his home in Buckfield. He moved the earth with his beastly backhoe, cut down the trees, sawed them, planed them and turned them into a beautiful home for his family.
He was very proud of his son, Justin, for being the fine young man he has become. They recently spent time playing pingpong in the family room and enjoying the competition of who would win. He had a special bond with his stepson, Jared, and shared many memories, including great times four-wheeling.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Marie; his son, Justin; and his stepson, Jared.
He was predeceased by his father, Stanley Lewis Hendricks.
