PORTLAND – Cathedral of St. Luke will be the setting for Christmas with Renaissance Voices at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17.
The cathedral is located at 143 State St. between Congress and Spring.
Harold Stover, director of the 18-voice a cappella ensemble, said the evening of music is certain to put the audience in the true spirit of the season.
The program will feature motets by the 16th Century Spanish composers Tomas Luis de Victoria, Cristobal Morales, and Dom Pedro de Cristo; “Wachet auf!” by Michael Praetorius; and works by Renaissance composers Orlando di Lasso and Johannes Eccard. The American premiere of “hevene quene,” by Kerry Andrew, a young woman composer from England, will be among the evening’s delights. The 20th century will be represented by Canadian composer Healey Willan. Sets of German and English carols will round out the program.
Admission: $12 at the door, $10 in advance at Starbird Music in Portland or at www. renaissancevoices.org.
