STEEP FALLS – Eva M. Mooney, 78, died Thursday, Dec. 15, in Steep Falls. She was a resident of Auburn Road in Peru.

Born in Rumford on Oct. 20, 1927, she was a daughter of Walter and Marion (Baltitis) Laurinaitis. After their deaths, she was raised by Frances Kowalzyk, whom she considered her mother. She was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford, with the Class of 1946.

She worked for many years at Diamond International Corp. in West Peru, and retired in 1988 from the clothespin department. She was a communicant of St. Athanasius and St. John Church.

She was married in Rumford on Jan. 31, 1948, to John J. Mooney, who died in South Paris on April 4, 2004.

Survivors include three sons, Robert P. Mooney and his wife, Linda, of Steep Falls, John P. Mooney and his wife, Deborah, of Peru, and James T. Mooney and his wife, Lynne, of Portland; four grandchildren, Robert W. Mooney and his wife, Sherri, of Steep Falls, Tracy Mooney of Steep Falls, Allison Mooney of Portland, and Patrick Mooney of Peru; and three great-grandchildren, Robert J. Mooney, Savannah L. Mooney and Lauren Mooney, all of Steep Falls.

She was predeceased by six brothers, John Wasilauskis, Frank Wasilauskis, Peter “Pat” Wasilauskis, Anthony Wasilauskis, Paul Laurinaitis and Stanley Welles; and a sister, Anna Wasilauskis.
