PORTLAND (AP) – A police officer fired three shots when a woman pointed a shotgun at officers, but no one was hurt, officials said Wednesday.

Sgt. Michael Sauschuck fired his gun after Jessica Brown refused orders to drop the shotgun after officers forced their way into her apartment while investigating harassment claims Tuesday night, Police Chief Tim Burton said.

“This was a deadly force situation. It was a life-threatening situation. Sergeant Sauschuck’s life was clearly being threatened,” Burton said.

As required by law, the attorney general’s office will investigate the shooting to determine if deadly force was justified.

Brown, 47, was charged with violating a protection-from-harassment order, aggravated reckless conduct and criminal threatening. She was held Wednesday at the Cumberland County Jail, where bail was set at $10,000 property or $5,000 cash.
