LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) – The town jail in Camargo, Bolivia, shares one thing – perhaps only one – with Hart’s Location, N.H.: It was first to cast and count its votes in a presidential election.
Socialist Evo Morales, seeking to become Bolivia’s first Indian president, won six of the 11 votes cast Sunday. Michiaki Nagatani, a son of Japanese immigrants, won four votes and cement company businessman Samuel Doria took one, according to the Catholic radio station, Fides. Eight candidates are seeking Bolivia’s presidency.
Hart’s Location was the first town to report its votes in November 2004’s U.S. presidential election, with President Bush topping Democrat John Kerry 35-21.
