The Auburn Business Development Corporation was given assurance by representatives of Amos Parish & Co. of Connecticut that there is a good potential in Auburn for a shopping center. The representatives said a preliminary survey of Auburn and surrounding towns indicated this and that they felt sure a detailed survey would bear out this impression.

An “All Maine Breakfast” at Portland will launch Maine’s participation in January Egg Month, the State Agriculture Dept. said. Gov. Muskie, members of the Executive Council and press, radio and TV food editors will be among the breakfast guests. During the month, the poultry industry, stores and restaurants will feature eggs in their advertising and menus.

25 Years Ago, 1980

Graying and losing teeth, Massa, the oldest ape in captivity, marks another milestone, when he celebrates his 50th birthday, reaching the human equivalent of 120 years old.

“He really looks like an old man, skinny legs, pot gut, gray hair, and he appears to be nearsighted although he recognizes everybody who works here.” said Philadelphia Zoo president William Donaldson.

Nevertheless, the aging ape is reportedly stronger than 16 men. He weighs almost 300 pounds, down 100 pounds from his prime weight 10 years ago.
