DOVER, N.H. – Kenneth R. Karkos, 65, of Mast Road Ext., died suddenly at his home.
He was born on Sept. 2, 1940, in Portsmouth, N.H., the son of Milan and Priscilla (Tidd) Karkos.
He graduated from Traip Academy in 1958 and Dartmouth College in 1962. He studied at the University of Vermont and University of Rochester, N.Y. He received his Ph.D. in neuroanatomy at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. He graduated from Michigan State Medical School in Lansing, Mich., as a doctor of osteopathy and from Maine Medical in psychiatry.
He taught at Texas Tech Medical School in Lubbock, Texas, at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, and at Cleland Chiropractic in Kansas City, Mo. He worked in mental health service in Hyannis, Mass., and at Strafford Guidance Center in Dover, N.H.
He enjoyed fishing – both fly-fishing for trout and salt-water-striper fishing – fly-tying, kayaking, reading and jazz. He had a huge curiosity and interest for the world around him and would research a myriad of topics for the pleasure of learning.
He is survived by his mother, Priscilla of Dover, N.H.; his brother, Bob and his wife, Jan, of Rollinsford, N.H.; and his nephews, Brice of Rochester, N.H., Brett of Rollinsford, and their families.
He was predeceased by his father, Milan, in 2002.
