BOSTON (AP) – A South Boston teenager was arraigned Friday on manslaughter charges in connection with the August death of a homeless man.
Police arrested Ryan Leonard, 15, at his home Friday morning, a day after he was indicted by a grand jury.
Mario Acosta was found badly beaten at a South Boston intersection August 26. Leonard punched Acosta in the face after an argument, authorities said. Acosta fell, hit his head and died several days later, police said.
Leonard’s friend, Thomas Grealish, 17, was charged with assault and is being held on $125,000 cash bail.
Leonard was indicted as a youthful offender, which means that he faces the same punishment as an adult. Manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 20 years.
Leonard is being held on $250,000 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in Suffolk Superior Court again Jan. 17.
