Bretton Woods motel hit by fire
CARROLL, N.H. (AP) – A two-alarm fire at a motel that’s part of the Bretton Woods resort destroyed much of the building and forced guests to evacuate Saturday night.
Resort spokesman Chip Steward said no one was injured in the fire that started around 6 p-m. Guests who were displaced by the fire were being taken in at other area hotels, he said.
Steward said the fire appears to have started in a room on the second floor and spread. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

LONDONDERRY, N.H. (AP) – A local woman has been charged with vehicular assault after a crash that forced a Derry man to have his foot amputated.

N.H. woman paid in 39,000 pennies
KEENE, N.H. (AP) – A local woman who won a case in small claims court against a painting contractor got her money in pennies.
Gerry Day says she came home to find 39,000 pennies in buckets on her front porch. After asking police to investigate, she learned they had been delivered by Roy’s Painting of Swanzey, the company ordered to repay her a portion of her deposit.
A Keene District Court judge determined the pennies covered the debt since there was no legal requirement dictating how payment was to be made.
However, the judge said Roy’s Painting will be liable for any fee charged by the bank for processing the pennies.
