RUMFORD – All nurses who care for mothers and newborns in Rumford Hospital’s Birthing Center are now certified in neonatal resuscitation.

The neonatal resuscitation program and certification were developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics in conjunction with the American Heart Association. Nurses received instruction and passed exams to receive the certification.

All maternity nurses at Rumford Hospital are required to pass the course within a year of being hired.

In order to retain certification, registered nurses must pass an exam every two years. Registered nurse Kim Akers and registered nurse Joette Carlton, and Michelle Gilbert are certified neonatal resuscitation instructors.
